When I think about Taurus, the image of walking through nature, smelling the flowers, looking at the details of the leaves and really absorbing the natural surroundings comes to mind. “Stopping to smell the roses".

Here I will be exploring the energies of Taurus and what it can bring.

Personally, I can find the energy of Taurus challenging. Taurus wants to be slow and methodical, preferring not to be hurried. For me this can bring up frustration. I have a very quick mind, often jumping ahead 10 steps and completely forgetting to smell the roses, in fact I’m more likely to ask "what roses?" As I've grown I can see more of the benefits of this slow and steady Taurus energy. In fact it can be quite healing for me, calming, bringing me back into my body and out of my head, grounding me back in the present.

Taurus is the second sign in the zodiac wheel. Moving on from Aries fire and "doing", Taurus compensate by "being". Aries energy is associated with the new-born baby who is literally only aware of self, as we move around the zodiac wheel or its representation of human growth, we start to become aware that there are things that are external to us, our senses expand and we start to consciously take in the external world through them.

I think it's fair to say that Taurus is the most sensual of all the signs. Being strongly grounded and connected to the Earth there is usually an appreciation of some sort to the bounty that nature brings. Taurus tends to prefer a simple and quiet life and is often creative and artistic.

Taurus has a need for security and certainty. They are solid and grounded and as a result tend to need this in their lives, valuing physical security as well as security of their homes and making sure food is available. Their need for certainty makes them excellent organisers and planners with a tendency to carry things through and to keep going when things get tough. While this is great for the most part, the same steadfastness can lead them to be extremely fixed, inflexible and stubborn with a reluctance to try new things or adventures, preferring to stick to the tried and tested.

Taurus has a reputation for being materialistic, and in my opinion I believe this to be true. But not necessarily in an "only caring about money" way. I would say materialistic in a way of valuing the material world. They prefer good quality and their need to not be hurried can extend into their purchasing decisions. A shadow side to this can be that they find security in external things, in possessions and people, with people this can manifest in jealousy and possessiveness. The lesson here is to find security within.

To me the symbol of the Bull gives a great deal of insight into Taurus. Tremendous strength on many levels, giving way to a great personal resilience, carrying things through. They are not easily ruffled, having the ability to accept life as it is and continue building in their slow but steady way. They may not be easily ruffled but when they are you will know about it!

There are many lessons that can be learnt from the energy that Taurus brings, even if you don't resonate with Taurus, or the energy isn't strong in your birth chart. I invite you to consider where in your life you may have got yourself a bit stuck in a rut, or have become lazy? When was the last time you stopped to smell the roses and really took in nature? I invite you to try a walking meditation to do just this.

With soul,

Paula
