The Autumn equinox in the northern hemisphere marks the start of Libra season. Since I have a number of planets in this sign, I relate strongly to its traits. When writing this blog, I reflected on how my desire for harmony and aversion to conflict have led me to suppress my emotions, only to find them popping back up later in life.
As the zodiac wheel turns, the shift to Libra’s energy is a shift further towards the outside world, to other people and the relationships we have with them. Libra finds meaning in others, but this concern for others can sometimes cause them to give away personal-power to external influences, be that intimate partnerships, business relationships or friendships. This can lead to a type of insincerity. It's not that Libra wants to deliberately deceive, although manipulation can be a shadow trait, but that they aren't always aware of their people-pleasing behaviour, which they can use to keep things harmonious.
Libra is civilised and appreciates order, symmetry, and things to be "right". This often includes emotions and behaviours. Because of this, it can be hard for them to express, or even access, their deeper emotions. After all, expressing how they truly feel could lead to conflict and disharmony. Relationships are very important to Libra and there can be a deep fear of being hurt by others, as they place so much meaning on these connections. If they aren’t careful this can lead to self-sacrifice and people pleasing. I have been given many opportunities in my life to learn from this one!
Libra can be very social and charming, and they’re great at creating harmonious and comfortable environments for others. While they can be said to “sit on the fence”, when used in the right way, this is actually an incredible vantage point from which to view many perspectives. This makes Libra very good negotiators, diplomats and facilitators of compromise. Justice is another biggy for Libra, but it can lead them into a world of "should's" and "that’s not fair!". They can be socially sensitive, so "losing face" can be particularly difficult for them.
Ruled by the planet Venus, Libra loves beauty and luxury. They may tend to want things, and themselves, to be aesthetically pleasing. There is an energy of grace, elegance and adaptability, that feeds into their charming nature. Their pursuit of perfectionism can lead to them sweeping problems under the carpet.
The key words for Libra are "I balance", and with it comes a key lesson; one of finding balance in life, of equal giving and receiving, one of bearing one's own burden and developing courage and faith in your own qualities without seeking external validation. There is a realisation to be had that no relationship can truly give you what you want or need, it needs to come from within, it needs to come from you.
If you feel called, I invite you to embrace the energy of Libra and have a look at where in your life you are out of balance. Are there places where you’ve been giving much more than you’re receiving? Are there situations where you are subtly being insincere through pleasing others, or avoiding dis-harmony?
With soul,
Paula
