As the Sun enters Aries it signifies the beginning of the astrological year and the Spring equinox in the Northern hemisphere. The time when we notice the mornings are getting lighter and the days longer. Aries is a cardinal fire sign, which to me brings the words creation and initiation. The planetary ruler of Aries is Mars which brings actions and assertion.
For me Aries season and the energy it brings gives the feeling of waking up, coming back to life. A time for me to shake off the darkness and start to get out into the world again. This time of year is bursting with life and vitality. I start to feel more sociable and get excited about the year to come and what I have planned. In short, this time of year brings a huge smile to my face.
People who have strong Aries energy are natural leaders, inspirational leaders, their energy and ability to get shit done inspires many to “just do it”. This energy gives them the feeling of a warrior, having the ability to tackle things head on. This may not always work out first time, but they always find a way as their ability to problem solve and rise to a challenge is endless, this is how they gain confidence and experience. This same energy however can also lead them to be a bit of a lone-wolf, as many aren’t quick enough for them and they can get restless and impatient wanting to make things happen. If this energy of pushing ahead isn’t kept in check it can lead to impulsiveness and risk-taking with little consideration of the consequences.
Aries can have the reputation of being selfish. The word “selfish” has a bit of a negative connotation, personally I believe that you can’t truly help others unless you are in a good place yourself. Aries acts as a reminder to do what is right for us. Aries values freedom and frank discussion and can be honest and direct, earning peoples respect even if they may feel a little put out by their directness. With Aries what you see is what there is.
Aries is extremely generous and loves a cause, something to move towards or fight for. They often stand strong for those they feel are the underdog or the under-privileged, showing their courage and bravery, inspiring and bringing out these qualities in others. They have the ability to stay focused and to place their attention on the moment. Incredibly self-motivated and independent. However, they can sometimes feel left out or abandoned as cooperation doesn’t always come easily for them but they like to be in the thick of things, they want to be included.
Being the first sign of the zodiac, this “being first” gives Aries a child-like energy and a naivety, bringing a freshness, an innocence and a vulnerability of sorts. This child-like energy can bring with it a difficulty in separating themselves from what is going on around them, this can lead them to take things personally. Aries is full of ideas, however they can get bored easily and want to move on to the next thing before they finish anything giving an insight into their impatience and at times lack of perseverance. This continuous transformation and moving forward can lead to destructiveness as things are not seen through to the end.
In the birth chart any planets placed in Aries are usually sped up, are daring, decisive, and impulsive. A good lesson to learn here is one of caution. Take a moment, step back, and be mindful. The house cusp that falls in Aries is the area in life we may have the tendency to be daring, where we are willing to start anew, and are eager for action. In this area of life we may hold the attitude “I am going to do what I want”.
If you are familiar with your birth chart, have a look to see what planets you have in Aries and consider if these parts of you have a tendency to be quick and daring. Would it help you to take a more cautionary approach here? If you are not familiar with your birth chart but would like to bring some Aries energy into your life, I invite you to ask yourself “where would I benefit from being a bit more selfish?”, “Where in my life would I like to start something new? What’s stopping me?”
With soul,
Paula
